Melaka Raya is located in Malacca's city center, having been built on reclaimed land by the sea in Bandar Hilir. This area is now considered Malacca's busiest and most popular commercial district, with many modern malls, office blocks, restaurants and shoplots catering for the local people as well as visitors and tourists. The center of nightlife in Jonker Street takes place in a corner where three roads intersect; this area can easily be found by following the music of live bands and the large crowds that gather here. The shoplots here are occupied by bars and pubs that provide al-fresco dining by the road on weekends.
