While Malacca is known more for its historical and cultural sights and places, tourists and visitors do not have to go far if they want to hit the beach. A few popular beaches lie along the coastline along the state, including Tanjung Tuan which is near Port Dickson. For an even better experience, head to the remote islands of Pulau Besar and Upeh.
Tanjung Tuan
Tanjung Tuan is located near Port Dickson at the border of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, just 22 km away from Malacca Town. One of the last few remaining mangrove forests along the southern coastline. Also known as Cape Rachado, Tanjung Tuan contains several beautiful beaches which requires trekking through the coastal forest to reach. The forest is also a popular place for bird watching activities, with an annual migration of raptors.
Tanjung Bidara
Tanjung Bidara is one of the most popular beaches along the coast of Malacca. It does not offer crystal clear waters and is what some would consider murky, but it is indeed an accessible beach that's near to Melaka Town with a quiet atmosphere for relaxation. Visitors and tourists have a choice of local food in hawker stalls that line this area. Tanjung Bidara may be reached 35 km north of Malacca city.
Tanjung Keling, Klebang and Pantai Kundur
In Malacca, the other popular tourist beaches are found in Tanjung Keling, Klebang and Pantai Kundur. Tanjung Keling, or Kling, is located about 10 km from Malacca Town, where there is a pleasant beach with coconut trees and water sports. A short distance away, visitors can visit Hang Tuah's Well, which is named after a famous historical warrior. Klebang Beach is also located nearby Tanjung Kling, offering fantastic sea views and more beach side activities. Finally, Pantai Kundur, also known as Pantai Puteri, is said to be the best beach in Malacca after Tanjung Tuan. This beautiful stretch of beach is lined with casuarina trees and popular for fishing.
Islands
There are a few islands lying off Melaka that provide tranquil places for visitors and tourists to relax on warm beaches. Pulau Besar, which means 'Big Island', has a landscape that takes the shape of a pregnant woman's belly. Pulau Besar also has a cave and rock formations that are the focus of pilgrimages by local Indian Muslims. Another beautiful island off Malacca's coast is Pulau Upeh, which used to be a sighting ground for battleships during the world war. Other times, it was a pirate haunt. Today, it is a nice holiday spot for recreational activities and water sports by the beach. The island is also a known nesting ground for hawksbill turtles.
